New Mexico Historic Sites offers a glimpse into the rich historical and prehistoric heritage of the state, with a system established on March 14, 1931, for the preservation of its scientific resources. This initiative led to the designation of sixteen historic sites, including renowned locations like Pecos, Gran Quivira, and Lincoln, many of which are now protected as state monuments. Today, eight active sites welcome visitors to explore their significance: Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner, Coronado, Fort Selden, Fort Stanton, Jemez, Lincoln, Los Luceros, and Taylor-Mesilla.
