The New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority (NMRHCA) was established in 1990 to provide comprehensive health care coverage for retirees from state agencies and eligible public entities. Currently serving around 64,000 retirees and their dependents, NMRHCA supports approximately 302 participating entities, including cities, counties, universities, and charter schools. The Authority offers a range of benefits including medical plans for both non-Medicare and Medicare-eligible retirees, as well as dental, vision, and life insurance options.
Governed by an 11-member Board of Directors, NMRHCA is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for public retirees through responsible management of affordable health care benefits. Despite facing financial challenges, including rising health care costs and funding shortfalls, the Authority aims to secure long-term stability and has actively sought legislative support to increase employer and employee contributions. With its mission focused on delivering peace of mind, NMRHCA continues to strive for transparency and efficacy in its operations.
