No-Log is a brand that was established in 2002 by the association Globenet. Initially, it provided internet access through dial-up and ISDN modems, as well as anonymous email accounts. Currently, only the email service remains active, although new registrations have been discontinued since 2008.
Despite its name, No-Log is obliged to retain logs (information about who wrote to whom and when) without the content or subject of the messages for a period of one year. They offer webmail access and options to change passwords or delete accounts. No-Log recently underwent an internal security audit that revealed significant security issues, potentially compromising the privacy of email accounts.
While no evidence of exploitation was found, they cannot guarantee that it didn't occur. To mitigate these risks, No-Log plans to renovate their service. Users are encouraged to conduct a thorough cleanup of their emails, and inactive accounts will be automatically closed.
No-Log aims to reduce volunteer effort, minimize environmental impact, and enhance financial sustainability. Despite the security concerns, storing old emails on personal hard drives remains a more secure option than online storage
