About Noahs Ark Scans
Noah’s Ark Scans is a research project investigating the boat-shaped Durupınar formation in eastern Turkey, near Mount Ararat. The project examines the site’s possible connection to the biblical account of Noah’s Ark, while using geophysical methods to map its structure and geology. Led by an international research team and directed by Prof. Dr. Cenker Atila of Sivas Cumhuriyet University, the work is described as government-authorized and designed to protect the site through non-invasive investigation.
Research activities include drone-based LiDAR and thermal imaging, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), and audio-magnetotelluric surveys. The project also outlines plans for sonic core sampling, robotic-camera exploration of underground voids, and laboratory analysis of geological data. Findings from these methods are intended to be combined into an interactive 3D model for further study.
Noah’s Ark Scans shares project updates, survey imagery, research information, and a gallery through its website. It also offers guided tours to the formation and sells apparel and caps, with proceeds supporting field surveys, equipment, and research operations.
