Nordkalottbiblioteket is a specialist library and cultural and research centre in Övertorneå, in Sweden’s Tornedalen region. It preserves and makes accessible resources documenting the areas around and north of the Arctic Circle, with a particular focus on Tornedalen and the wider Nordkalotten. Its collection includes nearly 10,000 titles, alongside archival and genealogical materials, press clippings, and articles. Visitors can also explore digitised archival material and an image and sound archive. The oldest book in the collection dates from 1648. As a reference library, its books are not available for loan.
The centre also hosts a resource library for Meänkieli, offering books and other media, inspiration, and teaching materials for use in education and at home. This service aims to support municipal libraries and raise the visibility of the language. Genealogy researchers can consult relevant materials, and members of Matarengi Forskarförening meet regularly at the library. Nordkalottbiblioteket also holds cultural events, including the annual Meänkieli Day.
