Norrbottens museum

Norrbottens Museum is the regional museum of Norrbotten, Sweden, and is part of Region Norrbotten’s regional development and culture division. It helps people explore the county’s history and cultural heritage through exhibitions, public programmes, research and access to its collections. The museum’s work spans archaeology, buildings and settlement history, ethnology, photography and archives, with projects documenting heritage across the region, including Sámi history and archaeological sites.

Its collections, built up since the late nineteenth century, include objects ranging from painted furniture to everyday household items, as well as an extensive image archive containing material from the museum, photographers and private individuals. Visitors can search collection databases to discover photographs, objects and archival records. The museum also offers talks, courses, archive cafés, virtual tours and activities for schools, alongside a calendar of events and exhibitions. Arkivcentrum Norrbotten provides access to archival resources and hosts public activities. The museum publishes an annual book and shares stories through its blog and podcast. Its main building in central Luleå is undergoing renovation.
