The Norwegian Seaweed Cluster (NSC) brings together key players from across the entire seaweed and kelp value chain – from cultivation and processing to applications in food, feed, biostimulants, and other industrial markets. NSC works to build a strong and effective innovation ecosystem for the Norwegian seaweed industry. Through collaboration, competence building, and innovation, the cluster facilitates industrial upscaling and supports members in developing competitive, sustainable products based on seaweed and kelp resources. Funded by Innovation Norway, SIVA, and Research Council of Norway (NFR), together with around 50 companies, R&D institutions, and industry stakeholders, NSC serves as a collaborative platform for growth and value creation. Vision: A profitable seaweed and kelp industry for a sustainable future. Mission: To create profitable value chains through innovation, structured collaboration, and knowledge sharing. By fostering trust, openness, and solution-oriented dialogue, NSC helps address bottlenecks, accelerate development, and strengthen Norway’s position as a leading seaweed nation.

About Norwegian Seaweed Association
The Norwegian Seaweed Association (NSA) is a platform dedicated to the development of complete value chains within the food, feed, and other innovative sectors using cultivated macroalgae as a valuable resource. Established in March 2021 by merging two Norwegian seaweed networks, NSA aims to strengthen the seaweed industry by involving stakeholders such as R&D organizations, suppliers, customers, investors, and public funders. The association has four key objectives.
Firstly, collaboration: NSA encourages the exchange of knowledge and experiences in seaweed farming and production, promoting the industry's viability in Norway. Secondly, branding and markets: the association identifies and explores national and international markets for seaweed products, working towards establishing a common brand for Norwegian seaweed. Thirdly, streamline production: NSA seeks to professionalize cultivation and industry to become internationally competitive, while also creating product standards for the seaweed industry.
Lastly, sustainability: seaweed plays a crucial role in recycling nitrogen, phosphorus, and CO2, providing habitats for other organisms, and serving as a source of vegetative food and feed. NSA values and aims to enhance the contribution of seaweed to the ecosystem. Membership in the association offers several benefits, including access to conferences, seminars, and study trips, as well as opportunities for knowledge exchange, participation in research projects, and representation in important arenas.
