Welcome to the North Carolina History Project, a comprehensive resource for those interested in the history of the Tar Heel State. Our mission is to uncover and shed light on the forgotten narratives and themes that have shaped North Carolina's rich history. Through our website northcarolinahistory.
org, we offer an evolving, non-polemical encyclopedia that covers a wide range of topics, from entrepreneurship and private sector problem solving to the positive influence of free markets. Our goal is not only to provide a platform for historical debate and interpretation but also to encourage the study of history within individuals and communities. In addition to our encyclopedia, we offer a separate commentary section where historians can engage in historical discussions, an educator's corner with lesson plans and primary sources, and a community calendar for local historical events.
But that's not all! We also host a lecture series featuring leading historians, like Wilfred M. McClay and Gordon S. Wood, as well as a book club.
Our team is available for lectures and presentations to civic, educational, and religious groups. We are the North Carolina History Project, a special project of the John Locke Foundation, a non-profit think tank in Raleigh.
