Northern Cross Land & Cattle Co is a family-run California ranch based in Woodland, with a heritage of producing performance horses and beef cattle dating to 1852. The Swickard family has operated under several ranch brands over the generations, including JS, Five Dot and Gamadian Cross. Today, Northern Cross continues that tradition through a breeding program focused on blue roan and black Quarter Horses.

The company combines more than 150 years of practical ranching and horse-breeding experience with performance-horse genetics. Its broodmares have been genetically tested, and the breeding stock includes homozygous black and homozygous roan horses. By pairing these mares with high-level performance stallions, the ranch aims to predict the color and genetic makeup of its foals with accuracy.

Northern Cross foals have achieved success in cutting, reined cowhorse and reining. The ranch also emphasizes qualities suited to rodeo and ranch work, including size, disposition, color and athletic ability. Its website features broodmares, stallions, horses for sale and information about roan horses.
