Northern Mushroom Tours

Northern Mushroom Tours is a Wisconsin-based outdoor education business offering guided mushroom experiences in Bayfield County and the surrounding Northwoods. Led by Arne Martinson, an experienced forager and mycologist and a board member of the Wisconsin Mycological Society, the company helps guests learn about local fungi while exploring forests, waterfalls, and Lake Superior shorelines. Tours are available by appointment during mushroom season, from July through October, and can be tailored to participants’ interests and experience levels.

Options include two- to three-hour half-day tours and longer full-day foraging adventures, with group arrangements available. The business also offers personalized classes covering mushroom identification, foraging safety and ethics, advanced techniques, gourmet cooking, and mushroom photography. For property owners, Northern Mushroom Tours provides single-day and seasonal land assessments to document fungal diversity and abundance. Tours begin with an introduction to mushroom biology and identification, then continue outdoors at a comfortable pace. Guests can request special itineraries, including visits to Madeline Island.
