About Northshore SES Unit
The Northshore SES Unit is a vital division of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES). Comprised of dedicated volunteers from various backgrounds, they sacrifice their time to provide assistance during emergency situations and disasters. DFES plays a critical role in coordinating emergency services to tackle a wide range of natural disasters and incidents that endanger lives and properties.
With support from a vast network of over 32,000 volunteers and more than 1000 career firefighters, DFES collaborates with the community and the government to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from diverse emergencies. The Northshore SES Unit serves the Perth CBD and neighboring council municipalities including Nedlands, Claremont, Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove, Mosman Park, Subiaco, Cambridge, and Vincent. They train their volunteers extensively to handle various emergency scenarios and provide support in different roles.
The unit deals with an array of incidents, such as searching for missing persons, storm damage, fallen trees, collapsed ceilings, flooding, and buildings damaged by vehicle impacts. Additionally, on a statewide level, the SES takes the lead in managing floods, cyclones, storms, earthquakes, and tsunami threats
