Northwest Mushroomers

Northwest Mushroomers Association (NMA) is a community organization for people interested in exploring fungi, from beginners to experienced mycologists. Serving northwest Washington State, including Whatcom and Skagit counties and parts of Island County, NMA brings mushroom enthusiasts together to learn about the remarkable diversity of fungi around the Salish Sea.

The association offers meetings, educational resources, and guided forays, creating opportunities for members to develop their knowledge and share their interest in mushroom exploration. Its programs include a microgrant initiative, a newsletter archive, a calendar of activities, and information on mushroom poisoning and safety. NMA also hosts a Wild Mushroom Show, with a presentation schedule and tickets available through its website.

For documenting finds, NMA encourages the use of iNaturalist and provides a step-by-step guide, as well as information about MycoMatch, an identification tool focused on Pacific Northwest mushroom species. The association stresses that people are responsible for verifying mushroom identities and safety before eating them. Membership is open to new participants and returning supporters.
