Aktion: Notaufnahmen retten is an initiative led by staff from emergency departments in Germany. It advocates for safer working conditions and improved emergency care for patients, families, and healthcare workers. Its central aims are to secure needs-based national funding for emergency services, establish binding minimum staffing requirements, and define the professional roles and duties of staff working in emergency departments.

The initiative calls for round-the-clock security in every emergency department, hazard and infection-protection allowances, and compliance with or improvement upon standards set by DGINA and DIVI. It also supports the continuous presence of at least one specially trained emergency nursing professional, additional support staff, appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios in short-stay and observation units, and non-clinical leadership roles. These proposals are being developed with input from the initiative, DGINA, and other experts.

Aktion: Notaufnahmen retten raises awareness through a public petition, supporter registration, news updates, and media communications. It also engages with policymakers at state and federal levels, shares information about emergency care and staffing, and works to bring its demands to Germany’s health minister and relevant expert bodies.
