With a team of esteemed vintage and custom drum experts from around the globe, NSMD has become a hub for drummers worldwide who are passionate about collecting, preserving, and playing these extraordinary instruments. Founded by John Aldridge in 1988, Not So Modern Drummer started as a modest four-page newsletter catering to a small community of vintage drum enthusiasts. However, it rapidly evolved into a quarterly magazine featuring articles from renowned experts and advertisements from prominent players in the drum industry.
Under John's leadership, NSMD introduced an annual drum show and a thrilling snare drum contest, captivating drummers from all walks of life. In 2005, NSMD was acquired by Bill Ludwig III, grandson of William F. Ludwig, the visionary founder of the Ludwig Drum Company in 1910.
The baton was then handed over to George Lawrence in 2008, the current publisher. While the quarterly print magazine transformed into a monthly email newsletter in 2012, NSMD's mission remains steadfast - to preserve the extensive body of knowledge amassed over its remarkable 27-year history and to continue expanding that knowledge base well into the future. As the ultimate resource for vintage and custom drum enthusiasts, Not So Modern Drummer promises an unparalleled treasure trove of information, featuring comprehensive articles, a vibrant drummer community, and a thriving drum marketplace.
