About novemberrevolution1918.de
This site documents the November Revolution in Germany from 1917 to 1919 through a detailed chronology, eyewitness accounts, contemporary commentary, documents, and historical analysis. It explores the social and political conditions that shaped the upheaval, including wartime hunger, rationing, labor unrest, military rule, and growing demands for peace. The material follows events leading to the revolution and describes the mass demonstrations, workers’ and soldiers’ councils, and the proclamation of competing republics in Berlin on 9 November 1918.
Alongside its historical accounts, the site presents exhibitions, publications, symposiums, and conferences related to the revolution and its opponents. Featured projects include the exhibition “NovRev&Gegner” and the books “…alle Macht den Räten” and “Stunde Null.” Visitors can also find information about a commemorative event held on 11 March 2019, including a film, as well as a symposium on 9 May 2018 and a 2019 conference. The collection brings together political history, personal experiences, contemporary reports, revolution theories, and artistic perspectives to examine the revolution’s causes, events, and legacy.
