National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
@nremt.org
It has been over five decades since President Johnson’s Committee on Highway Traffic Safety recommended creating a national certification agency to establish uniform standards for training, monitoring, and vetting personnel active in the delivery of emergency ambulance services. The result was the establishment of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians in 1970. Since its initiation, the National Registry has certified over 2 million EMS providers nationwide. Today, more than 500,000 individuals are nationally certified at the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced-EMT (AEMT), or Paramedic level.

About National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians is a non-profit organization established in 1970. Their mission is to protect the public and advance the EMS profession. They provide a valid and uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills of EMS professionals throughout their careers, maintaining a registry of certification status.
The organization is governed by a Board of Directors, comprised of prominent figures from the EMS community and the general public, who are dedicated to public protection and quality patient care. Accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, the National Registry offers four certification programs: Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and Paramedic. Their certifications are recognized in every state, with almost all states requiring National Registry certification for licensure.
With over two million certified EMS providers, the National Registry continues to prioritize the safety of the public through rigorous exam development and collaboration with volunteers in the EMS community. Their values of accountability, collaboration, inclusiveness, innovation, integrity, and transparency guide their work in shaping the future of the EMS profession
