Het NRVT bewaakt, waarborgt en bevordert de onafhankelijkheid, integriteit en kwaliteit van de Register-Taxateur en dient, als centraal register van vastgoedtaxateurs, het publiek belang van vastgoedwaarderingen. Hiermee streeft het NRVT naar een blijvend vertrouwen in de kwaliteit van deze beroepsgroep. Het NRVT registreert vastgoedtaxateurs op persoonlijke titel, handhaaft eenduidige gedrags- en beroepsregels en reglementen voor de vier Kamers (Bedrijfsmatig Vastgoed, Landelijk en Agrarisch Vastgoed, Wonen en WOZ). Het NRVT houdt daarbij toezicht op de naleving van de gedrags- en beroepsregels en reglementen en garandeert daarmee de kwaliteit en reputatie van de geregistreerde taxateurs. Daarnaast kent het NRVT een eigen centraal tuchtrechtstelsel, dat voorziet in een consistente, transparante en onafhankelijke tuchtrechtspraak voor alle geregistreerde taxateurs.
