National Suicide Research Foundation

The National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) is an Irish research organisation and centre of excellence focused on suicide and self-harm prevention. Based at University College Cork, it is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre and works nationally and internationally to develop research that can inform change in policy and practice.

The foundation’s work spans five strategic areas: suicide and self-harm surveillance, social determinants, intervention and prevention programmes, awareness and education, and policy implementation. It publishes research, journal articles, reports and findings from its Self-Harm Registry, which collects data from hospitals in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The NSRF also provides information and resources for researchers, policymakers, health and social care professionals, media, and the wider public.

Its services include training and education, courses, workshops, guidance and practical materials such as briefings, leaflets and infographics. The organisation supports responsible media reporting and helps people find reliable information and support services. Through research updates, events and publications, the NSRF shares evidence to strengthen understanding and prevention efforts.
