About Numismatische Kommission
The Numismatic Commission of the Federal States in Germany, established in 1950, is a prominent scientific organization that promotes the study and documentation of coin and monetary history in Germany. Comprising representatives from various federal states and specialists in numismatics, the Commission focuses on the cataloging of coin finds, which includes the extensive Medieval/Modern Coin Find Catalog containing over 20,000 recorded finds.
This initiative aims to foster research and education in numismatics, with initiatives such as the awarding of the Walter Hävernick Prize for exceptional academic theses in the field, and the Gitta Kastner Research Foundation, dedicated to exploring recent German art medals. The Commission also collaborates with the State Museums in Berlin, facilitating access to a growing database of finds, which currently holds nearly 22,000 entries on coin finds and around 50,000 entries on associated coins. Through its ongoing projects, the Commission serves as an essential resource for researchers and enthusiasts alike.
