The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is a regulatory body responsible for addressing complaints regarding the conduct of its registrants. Registrants include registered nurses, graduate nurses, nurse practitioners, graduate nurse practitioners, and certified graduate nurses practicing in Alberta. The CRNA follows the Health Professions Act (HPA) to manage all complaints and ensure the protection of the public and the integrity of the nursing profession.
Complaints can be submitted through two options, and the CRNA manages them through a comprehensive complaint management process. If necessary, investigations are conducted to gather all relevant facts and details. In some cases, complaints may proceed to a hearing to address allegations of unprofessional conduct.
Should a complaint be dismissed, complainants have the option to request a review of the decision. To promote transparency and public awareness, the CRNA publishes disciplinary decisions that highlight instances of unprofessional conduct and the resulting sanctions. Additionally, the CRNA is committed to improving Indigenous health and providing culturally safe and appropriate care to Indigenous patients and families in Alberta.
Please note that the CRNA is currently operating under the name College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) while awaiting an amendment to the Health Professions Act to reflect the name change. For more information or assistance, you can reach the CRNA through their toll-free number or social media channels
