The Nederlandse Vereniging voor Bereden Wapenvaardigheid ‘Saint Georges’ (NVBW) is a Dutch equestrian association founded in 2004, dedicated to mounted weapon skills inspired by the historic training of cavalry soldiers. With around 70 members, it is the Netherlands’ only recognised equestrian association focused on using weapons on horseback, including sabres and lances. Its activities combine traditional horsemanship, military-style formation and terrain riding, and the international sport of tentpegging.
The association offers weekly small-group instruction and monthly larger training sessions at Any Dale Hippique in Muiderberg. Members can develop skills such as riding through smoke, fire and noise, handling practice weapons safely, and performing mounted exercises. Training can prepare riders for the Military Riding Certificate at Basic, Silver or Gold level, and participants may earn certificates in weapon skills. For experienced riders, stunt training and opportunities to perform in public demonstrations are available through the Rode Huzaren team.
NVBW Saint Georges places particular emphasis on safety, horse welfare, equality and the development of both horse and rider.
