About Nicola Valley Institute of Technology
NVIT, or Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, is an Aboriginal public post-secondary institute that is part of British Columbia's education system. As a governed post-secondary institute, NVIT grants its own certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. NVIT offers a wide range of innovative and relevant programs and courses that aim to prepare future First Nation leaders in areas such as Wellness, Governance, Land, and Economic Development.
These programs are guided by the vision and commitment of the five local bands in the Nicola Valley. The institute believes in a holistic approach to education, incorporating the values and culture of First Nations into its curriculum. Since its establishment in 1995, NVIT has expanded its facilities, adding a campus in 2002, student housing in 2007, a satellite campus in Burnaby in 2007, a lecture theatre and daycare in 2010, and a Trades Training Facility in 2015/16.
