NVKD-diatom

The Nederlands-Vlaamse Kring van Diatomisten (NVKD) is a society founded in 1986 to support Dutch-speaking enthusiasts and researchers studying diatoms, also known as kieselalgen. Its membership welcomes both amateurs and professionals, providing a shared platform for learning, research and exchange. The NVKD promotes diatom study through its publications and activities, including the annual journal Diatomededelingen and a three-day study event held at a different location in the Netherlands or Belgium each year.

The event combines a taxonomic workshop, a day of lectures and an excursion, offering members opportunities to deepen their knowledge and connect with others interested in diatoms. Membership is open to everyone and costs €15 per year. Members receive an annual issue of Diatomededelingen and invitations to the workshop, lectures and excursion.

The society also offers financial support to students who wish to attend its study events. Through these services, the NVKD brings together a diverse community and encourages the continued study and research of diatoms
