About Nevada Rare Disease Advisory Council
The Rare Disease Advisory Council (NVRDAC) in Nevada was established under SB 315 during the 2019 legislative session. This council focuses on examining the incidence, causes, and economic impact of rare diseases in the state. Their duties include increasing awareness, identifying prevention strategies, evaluating treatment delivery systems, and developing a comprehensive plan for managing rare diseases.
They also aim to create a registry of rare diseases for research purposes. Individuals can support the council by purchasing a specialized license plate through the Nevada DMV website. Rare diseases, affecting fewer than 200,000 individuals in the US, present challenges like delayed diagnosis, lack of treatment options, and high medical costs.
