About North West Mull CWC
North West Mull Community Woodland Company (NWMCWC) is a brand that focuses on the purchase and management of Langamull and West Ardhu forests in the north west of Mull. Established in 2006, NWMCWC acquired the woodlands through the National Forest Land Scheme with support from various organizations like the Scottish Land Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. To ensure the efficient transportation of timber, the company constructed a 16.
5km haul route at a cost of approximately £2. 4 million. The company has successfully set up nine forest crofts, all of which are now let, and also built a forest school.
Additionally, NWMCWC created an access path and signage for the archaeological site at Kildavie after completing the harvesting in Langamull North. Moreover, NWMCWC established a micro-hydro scheme within West Ardhu forest and is working towards the development of a woodland burial ground in Langamull. In 2013, the company purchased Crannich woodfuel to form Island Woodfuels, aiming to provide an additional revenue stream, local employment, and a long-term woodfuel supply for users on the island.
