The New Zealand Intelligence Community (NZIC) brings together core national intelligence, assessment and protective security functions to help protect Aotearoa New Zealand as a free, open and democratic society. Its intelligence-based insights and advice support government decisions that contribute to the country’s security and wellbeing.
The community’s agencies have distinct roles. The Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) leads New Zealand’s signals intelligence work, drawing intelligence from electronic communications, and provides cybersecurity services to New Zealanders. The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) identifies, assesses and works to mitigate threats to national security, while also offering protective security advice and services to the Government. The National Assessments Bureau (NAB), within the National Security and Resilience Group, produces intelligence assessments on events and developments relevant to New Zealand’s interests.
The NZIC website provides information about the agencies, their ministerial policy statements, and career opportunities. It directs prospective applicants to current vacancies at GCSB and NZSIS and provides links to the agencies and related government organisations.
