About Whānau Mārama: NZ International Film Festival
Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) is a premier cultural event that celebrates the art of cinema while connecting audiences with diverse global narratives. Established as part of a rich cinematic tradition, the Festival presents an impressive lineup of 150-170 high-quality films annually. It kicks off in Auckland, followed by a week in Wellington, and subsequently travels to 11 other locations across New Zealand, allowing film lovers in both urban centers and regional areas to engage with contemporary and classic films.
Since its rebranding in 2020, NZIFF has adapted to challenges, including a successful online-only offering during the pandemic. The Festival continues to prioritize New Zealand filmmakers, showcasing homegrown talent alongside international productions. With its rich history spanning over fifty years, Whānau Mārama is not only an essential event for film enthusiasts but also a platform for dialogue and celebration of cultural storytelling, making it a vital experience for community engagement and artistic appreciation in New Zealand
