The New Zealand Law Students’ Association (NZLSA), also known as Te Roopū Tauira Ture o Aotearoa, is the national organisation representing law students across New Zealand. It is the parent body of the six on-campus law student societies, and law students become members upon enrolment. As an incorporated charitable trust, NZLSA advocates for students and provides a united voice on issues affecting legal education. Its representatives serve on the Council of Legal Education, and the association makes submissions to government bodies and other organisations.
Supporting students’ education and wellbeing is central to NZLSA’s work. It conducts a national Education and Wellbeing Survey and publishes resources such as the Law School Survival Guide and Clerkship Guide. The association also publishes the New Zealand Law Students’ Journal, offering students opportunities to contribute legal research and gain publishing experience.
NZLSA facilitates annual campus competitions in mooting, witness examination, client interviewing, negotiation and paper presentation. It negotiates competition sponsorship and hosts a national conference where campus winners compete for national titles.
