The Hutt City Emergency Response Team (HCERT) is the Lower Hutt's volunteer rescue response team. We are also a nationally deployable Civil Defence response team (NZRT18) Based in Hutt City, the team responds to Civil Defence emergencies and other incidents on request.

About NZRT-18
The Hutt City Emergency Response Team (HCERT) is the local Civil Defence emergency and disaster response team for the Hutt City community. Working in conjunction with wider emergency services, HCERT provides 24-hour on-call resilient emergency response services. Comprised of dedicated volunteers, the team is available to respond to incidents at any time, year-round.
With high levels of training, HCERT members are skilled in various areas including urban search and rescue, technical rope rescue, flood response, swift water rescue, medical and trauma care, communications, and welfare. Established in 2003, HCERT has a strong connection to the Hutt City Council and now operates under a separate Trust. Beyond their primary responsibility for immediate response in the Hutt City area, HCERT also assists Police with search and rescue operations and supports FENZ with firefighting efforts.
The team is available for assistance throughout the Wellington Region and on a national basis as needed
