NZSWA

New Zealand Sikh Women’s Association (NZSWA) is a community organisation founded in 2002 and based in Ōtāhuhu, South Auckland. It supports women, children and families affected by domestic and family violence, with a particular focus on migrant and Asian communities across South Auckland and Counties Manukau. Its vision is for families to live productive, harmonious lives free from violence, and its mission is to strengthen families while supporting their safety and well-being as they settle into a new society.

NZSWA provides free, confidential, culturally responsive services, including crisis support, safe-house referrals, legal advocacy and liaison with agencies such as Police, WINZ and Oranga Tamariki. Qualified ethnic counsellors offer individual, relationship and family counselling, while family mediation, home visits, hospital call-outs and community outreach provide additional support. The association also offers Hindi and Punjabi interpretation, migrant orientation and community education, including driver licence classes, healthy eating, violence prevention and upcycling workshops. Its monthly Green Warrior workshops bring families together to learn practical ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.
