NZ Underwater

New Zealand Underwater (NZUA) is New Zealand’s leading not-for-profit organisation for people involved in underwater activities. It promotes safe and enjoyable participation while advocating for a protected marine environment. Serving as a national hub for scuba divers, snorkelers, spearfishers and underwater sport enthusiasts, NZUA supports affiliated clubs and helps strengthen the country’s underwater community.

Its work is organised around safety, the environment, and sports and participation. The association shares diver-safety guidance and practical resources on topics including weather and tides, safe surfacing, medical checks, refresher training, equipment maintenance and buddy procedures. It also manages the Dive Emergency Service and provides an emergency contact number, alongside incident-reporting information.

NZUA advocates for clean-sea initiatives and supports marine environmental campaigns through volunteer involvement and expertise. It encourages participation in scuba diving, snorkeling, spearfishing and underwater hockey, and supports member sports communities. The organisation publishes annual reports, shares updates through its Dive Pacific newsletter, and invites people to join or donate.
