OARS is a science-based nonprofit dedicated to protecting, improving, and preserving the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord rivers and their 399-square-mile watershed in eastern Massachusetts. The organization works to support healthy rivers, resilient communities, wildlife habitat, clean water, and public access for recreation and learning. Its programs include water quality monitoring, ecological restoration, climate resilience initiatives, environmental education, and the SuAsCo Climate Collaborative.
OARS shares research and river health findings through its Rivers Report Card and resource library, and helps communities address challenges such as pollution, invasive species, aging dams, and stormwater runoff. The organization also supports dam removal and other efforts to restore river flow, habitat, and fish passage. For residents and visitors, OARS provides river maps and recreational guides, events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to report or remove invasive water chestnut.
