Ornithologische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sonsbeck e.V. (OAS) is a local nature conservation association founded in 1980 to protect the region’s native birdlife and natural environment. Based in Sonsbeck, Germany, the group combines bird observation and species mapping with practical landscape care and conservation projects. Its work includes maintaining association-owned natural areas, such as a woodland with a wetland habitat, an old-variety orchard and an educational garden.

OAS also helps people experience and learn about nature. It regularly organizes bird and nature walks around Sonsbeck, supports young people through its “Die Käuzchen” youth group, and welcomes volunteers to take part in conservation work and nest-box care. The little owl, the region’s smallest owl species, is the association’s emblematic bird. In its educational garden, OAS offers pruning courses for fruit trees and provides information on local birds and conservation. People can support the association through membership, donations or active participation. OAS also welcomes questions about birds and nature conservation and has received awards for its activities.
