OASIS (One Health Antimicrobial Stewardship in Society) is a research and community health initiative focused on improving antibiotic use and addressing antimicrobial resistance in India. Its work takes a multisectoral One Health approach, recognising the connections between human, animal and environmental health. OASIS studies how antibiotic stewardship can be adapted to mixed health system settings, including rural communities where informal providers play an important role in care.

The project combines formative research, stakeholder consultations, evidence and advocacy, and interventions to support responsible antimicrobial practices. A central part of its solution is the Antibiotic Bandhu app, designed to help rural human healthcare providers and animal health workers monitor data on antimicrobials used for infections. By connecting provider-level information with regional antimicrobial resistance data, the initiative aims to inform better practices and strengthen stewardship and governance.

OASIS is being developed with the community medicine team at AIIMS Kalyani for rural field sites in West Bengal, in collaboration with local health and animal husbandry departments and other partners.
