The Ottawa Area Trail Riding Equestrian Community (OATREC) is a registered not-for-profit corporation run by volunteers and dedicated to promoting, maintaining, and developing equestrian trails in the Ottawa area. For more than 20 years, the organization has supported local riders, with its work focused on the Larose Forest. OATREC liaises with the United Counties of Prescott and Russell on trail maintenance and future development, and manages equestrian use of the forest under a formal memorandum of understanding with the counties.
It also coordinates insurance for members and day-pass holders, oversees funds transparently, and promotes safe trail use. Its activities support recreational riding as well as competitions and special events, including those associated with the Ontario Competitive Trail Riding Association. OATREC organizes projects and fundraising to improve trails, including the Three Mile Project Rehabilitation, which received support from community and equestrian partners.
