The Observatorio Ciudadano de la Sequía is a pioneering citizen science initiative aimed at enhancing the understanding of drought risks and water scarcity across Spain, particularly in the context of climate change and hydrological transition. This platform promotes collaborative and deliberative methodologies to facilitate active public participation in water management and drought response decisions. By consolidating knowledge and dialogue among scientific, political, and social realms, the Observatory serves as a hub for interdisciplinary cooperation.

The platform provides accessible information on water management strategies, drought planning, and vulnerability indicators, supporting informed public discourse. Leveraging advanced geographic information technology, web applications, and artificial intelligence, the Observatory empowers citizens, water managers, and the scientific community to engage actively. Initially focused on southern Spain, the Observatory expanded its reach nationwide in 2022. With ongoing efforts to foster informed debates between citizens and experts, this project plays a crucial role in co-producing knowledge to improve water management practices across the country.
