Observatorio Ciudadano

Observatorio Ciudadano is a Chilean nonprofit organization dedicated to defending, promoting, and documenting human rights. It works to support the social, cultural, and institutional changes needed for individuals, communities, and peoples to exercise their rights fully. Across Chile, the organization develops projects in partnership with local and Indigenous organizations, other nongovernmental organizations, and national and international institutions.

Its work is organized around four programs: Indigenous Peoples’ Rights; Globalization and Human Rights; Biodiversity and Alternatives to Development; and Citizenship, Interculturality and Human Mobility. The organization also provides legal and communications support to Indigenous and local communities, including coastal communities working to protect their territories and strengthen Indigenous Marine Coastal Areas. Its projects address issues such as Indigenous participation in environmental policy, territorial rights, and the implementation of international agreements, including ILO Convention 169.

Observatorio Ciudadano shares its work through research, reports, publications, educational media, news, and public events. It also presents alternative reports to United Nations human rights bodies, contributing community perspectives to national and international discussions.
