An International Initiative for Climate Change Education Climate change is happening all over the world, and its consequences are already clearly visible. It concerns all of us and should be a priority for our educational systems, as highlighted in Article 12 of the Paris Agreement, which emphasizes the importance of climate change education. Created in 2018 under the auspices of UNESCO, the Office for Climate Education (OCE) was born from the need to bring together scientific and educational communities to provide concrete responses to the complex challenges of climate change. We support educational systems and teachers worldwide by providing them with expertise, training, and free educational resources, all based on scientific research and adapted to local contexts. Our goal is to educate present and future generations about climate change by supporting teachers through: Understanding the scientific mechanisms of the climate system and the challenges of climate change. Teaching using proven educational approaches adapted to local realities. Informed action, by developing students’ critical thinking to move beyond misconceptions and prepare for a changing world

The Office for Climate Education (OCE) is an international organisation dedicated to helping teachers and education systems deliver high-quality climate change education. Working with scientific and educational communities, it develops free teaching resources based on reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), supports teacher training, and contributes to climate education policy and school-based initiatives. Operating under the auspices of UNESCO since 2020, the OCE also co-coordinates a pillar of the Greening Education Partnership and has been an IPCC partner and observer member since 2021.
The OCE’s resources include thematic learning pathways that guide educators from scientific concepts to classroom activities and student-led mitigation or adaptation projects. Topics include food and agriculture, the greenhouse effect, and albedo. The organisation also designs and participates in long-term projects across local, national, and regional settings. These include ARRICE, which promotes climate education in Africa, and ALEC, which supports it in Latin America, alongside initiatives focused on extreme weather, Earth-system research, and environmental learning through webcomics.
