Ocean Energy Systems (OES) is an intergovernmental collaboration operating within the framework established by the International Energy Agency (IEA). As an IEA Technology Collaboration Programme, it brings member countries together to advance ocean energy internationally. OES describes its mission as serving as the authoritative international voice for ocean energy and accelerating the technology’s viability, uptake and acceptance in an environmentally responsible manner. It is functionally and legally autonomous; its publications and findings do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the IEA Secretariat or its member countries.
Rather than selling commercial products, OES provides information, research and opportunities for international cooperation. Its resources include an ocean energy roadmap, a global map tool, project information and publications on topics such as environmental acceptance, performance metrics, ocean thermal energy conversion and alternative markets. The organization also shares annual reports and technology insights, and supports discussion through news, webinars and the International Conference on Ocean Energy.
