Ocean Alliance Project is a Hawai‘i-based marine conservation organization working to protect and preserve the biodiversity of the islands’ coral reefs. Its approach combines community-based ecological monitoring, coral restoration, research, education, and regenerative tourism, helping turn participation in ocean activities into practical support for conservation.
The organization offers experiences for visitors and local residents, including sea turtle conservation snorkeling and full-day coral reef ecology and monitoring programs. Participants learn turtle photo-identification and reef survey techniques, including underwater photogrammetry and mapping. A four-day conservation diver program provides training and eight dives, while six- to eight-week marine research internships offer fieldwork, dive training, project development, and experience collecting and analyzing data. Additional offerings include Kama‘āina and keiki programs, courses, volunteer opportunities, and events.
For research and restoration partners, Ocean Alliance Project provides sustainable restoration monitoring, underwater photogrammetry, and high-resolution reef imagery. It also shares ecological data on coral disease, fish diversity, invertebrates, and reef composition through reporting tools and an ortho-mosaic database.
