The Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) is an interdisciplinary research and training collaboration that brings together researchers, industry, and government to address complex ocean challenges. A global leader in transnational ocean research, OFI aims to generate lasting social, economic, and environmental benefits. Its work includes the Transforming Climate Action program and research into the safe and sustainable development of the ocean frontier, connecting scientific knowledge with practical outcomes.

OFI supports ocean research through programs and services designed to strengthen collaboration and reduce barriers to impact. These include a Seed Fund for promising innovative projects, a Community-Led Research Program, and a Research Implementation Unit offering technical, operational, and data support for ocean observing. Four Transformation Accelerators help move projects toward benefits for Canada, while training initiatives develop the next generation of ocean experts. The institute also offers fellowships, research and community funding opportunities, data management support, Indigenous engagement resources, and education initiatives such as Ocean School and the Centre of Excellence in Observational Oceanography.
