Ocean World of Sound (WOS) is the first Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) program in the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR). We analyze ocean soundscapes to gain a deeper understanding of the marine ecosystem and its relationship with us. Based in Cancun, we operate throughout the Mexican Caribbean, an area heavily reliant on tourism. This region has experienced exponential growth over the past 40 years, placing significant pressure on its natural resources. Our initiative serves as a valuable tool for policymakers and Marine Protected Area (MPA) management, complementing their efforts while also acting as a bridge between science and the community. We offer tools for better listening and innovative ways for individuals to connect with their marine ecosystem. Sound monitoring is a relatively new, resource-efficient approach for gathering extensive data, making it an ideal technology for low-income coastal communities along the Mesoamerican Reef. WOS is developing a cost-effective and easy-to-implement model that can be replicated throughout the MAR. WOS is a project endorsed by the IOC Executive Secretary as part of the UN Ocean Decade.

About Ocean World of Sound
Welcome to Ocean World of Sound, a brand committed to ocean conservation and promoting a deeper connection with our environment. Our mission centers around the creation of a Mesoamerican Reef (MAR) research hub, where we integrate science with art and community engagement to promote research and conservation efforts.
We have four principal projects that are essential to our conservation objectives. The first is the continuous monitoring of the Mesoamerican Reef using non-invasive methods. This allows us to gather vital data for analysis and management within an open-source database, our second project. Through this database, we can explore the relationship between science and art by creating artistic pieces from the information we discover in the reefs, as well as conducting scientific research projects with artistic influences.
Education and outreach are also integral to our brand. We offer workshops where participants learn listening techniques and gain insights into the fascinating Mesoamerican Reef ecosystem. We believe that everyone, regardless of their background, can contribute to conservation, and we appreciate any form of support, whether it's time, money, mentorship, or friendship.
