Old Chapel Hill Cemetery Memorial (OCHCM) is a project by OCHCM, LLC, focused on providing a dignified place of remembrance within the historic Old Chapel Hill Cemetery in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Its central offering is a custom-designed granite columbarium intended for people who wish to have their cremated remains rest on the cemetery’s grounds. Designed by Sunset Memorial & Stone, Ltd., the double-faced structure will contain 208 niches and accommodate up to 448 urns, with capacity varying by niche and tier.
The design is intended to complement the architecture, scale, shape, and color of existing cemetery monuments, while remaining below the cemetery’s horizontal sight line. Located on two adjoining plots along the cemetery’s eastern boundary, the memorial is positioned near the UNC Memorial Grove. Paved pathways connect it to public parking and provide accessible routes without requiring visitors to walk across nearby gravesites.
