Ochotnicy Wolności

Stowarzyszenie Ochotnicy Wolności is a Polish association dedicated to historical education and the preservation of memories that have been excluded from dominant historical narratives. Its work focuses particularly on Polish volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War, including members of the International Brigades, and on the people, organizations, and movements connected with their history.

The association shares knowledge through articles, historical projects, public events, and campaigns. It also works to protect sites of remembrance and encourage discussion about how history is remembered. Its activities have included the “Hands Off Dąbrowszczaków Street” campaign, which successfully defended the street’s name in Warsaw and highlighted the Polish antifascists who fought in Spain. The group also participates in commemorations, supports research into burial sites, and helps recognize individual volunteers in Poland and abroad. Through its website, it publishes news, project updates, and information about its history and campaigns. Ochotnicy Wolności collaborates with organizations dedicated to the International Brigades and related historical memory in Poland and other countries.
