Octet

Octet is a cryptographic proof-of-location platform developed by Understone, Inc. It helps businesses verify whether an enrolled, human-carried device was inside or outside a defined area at a particular time. Its mobile SDK uses on-device sensor fusion to produce hardware-signed, predicate-only proofs with a verdict, confidence summary, and attestation chain. Proofs can be verified offline, and raw coordinates stay on the device.

Octet offers three products. Its self-serve SDK supports iOS and Android app integrations for location checks used in jurisdictional compliance, geofencing, and fraud prevention. Location Factor Authentication (LFA) combines an authenticator app and OIDC provider to add location as a factor to existing login systems, including Okta, Entra, and Auth0. Octet Browser provides a country-level verdict for web sessions and is available by application; it is not proof of a person’s physical presence.

The platform is designed for use cases such as sanctions screening, licensed-territory controls, and reducing account takeover risk.
