October Setters

October Setters is a family breeding program run by Cliff and Lisa Weisse, specializing in Ryman-type English Setters. Their dogs follow the classic foot-hunting style developed by George Ryman in the first half of the 20th century. The breeding goal is to preserve the English Setter’s original purpose: naturally finding, pointing, and retrieving birds in partnership with a hunter. October Setters emphasizes hunting performance, health, conformation, and companionable personalities, combining working ability with classic good looks and an easy-going disposition.

The kennel shares information about its male and female dogs, breeding plans, upcoming litters, and puppy purchasing. Its website also offers resources on English Setter health, including hip and elbow dysplasia, deafness, hypothyroidism, and the kennel’s hip program, with information about Ryman hips and PennHIP. Visitors can learn about George Ryman’s breeding program and the history of Ryman and dual English Setters. The site’s blog provides litter announcements, puppy updates, photographs, hunting-related posts, and other news for owners and prospective families.
