Orange County Water Smart Gardens is a water-wise gardening resource brought to the community by the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC). The site helps residents explore attractive, sustainable gardens suited to Orange County’s climate, featuring drought-tolerant plants, trees, and grasses. Visitors can browse gardens and landscape galleries, search plants by common or botanical name, find fire-resistant options, and save favorite selections to a private list to print and take to a nursery.

The resource also offers practical guidance for creating and maintaining sustainable landscapes. Topics include landscape renovation, drought response, efficient watering, soil health, composting, mulch, pest management, permeable surfaces, runoff solutions, and sustainable fertilization. Watering guides, a water calculator, and irrigation scheduling information help users plan and manage outdoor water use. MWDOC also shares water-saving tips and rebate information for residential, business, and industrial customers, including incentives related to efficient fixtures, appliances, landscape upgrades, and irrigation equipment. Together, these tools support informed gardening choices and help Orange County residents use water more efficiently.
