OERS

The Oceanographic Environmental Research Society (OERS) is a Canadian organization dedicated to protecting and conserving marine life and natural habitats. It responds to threats from natural disasters and human activities by supporting research, education, rescue, and rehabilitation. OERS is based in Barrie, Ontario, with education and training activities primarily in Toronto and field research at the Comeauville Marine Institute in Nova Scotia. Its rescue work is carried out wherever help is needed.

OERS supports research into marine animal deaths, strandings, environmental stressors, and ways to improve care for sick or injured animals. Its programs address topics such as pollutants, heavy metals, environmental influences on marine mammal deaths, and emergency treatment and rehabilitation. Competitive summer studentships and internships offer opportunities to participate in research.

The society also provides continuing and professional education, volunteer and internship training, public seminars, children’s reading programs, and educational exhibits. Its OERS Academy offers career experiences and field courses.
