O.G.A.O. (Oregonians for Gambling Awareness Organization) is an Oregon-based 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to raising awareness of gambling-related harm and helping people affected by gambling addiction feel less alone. Founder Ronda Hatefi created the organization following her brother Bobby’s death by suicide after he struggled with gambling addiction. Through her personal story and public advocacy, O.G.A.O. shares a message of hope, compassion, and help.
Incorporated in 2000, the organization raises awareness through conferences, media appearances, community outreach, and educational resources. It recognizes September 29 as Gambling Related Harm Awareness Day, in honor of Bobby’s birthday, and Ronda has sought annual proclamations from Oregon’s governor. O.G.A.O. also offers awareness calendars designed to encourage conversations about gambling harm and mental health, and shares stories and updates through its website and social media. Donations help support its outreach and efforts to reach more people. For those seeking support, O.G.A.O. provides contact information for Oregon and national gambling helplines, as well as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
