About Open House New York
Open House New York (OHNY) is a vital part of the global Open House Worldwide movement, which began in London in 1992. Spearheaded by Victoria Thornton OBE, HonFRIBA, OHNY promotes understanding and appreciation of architecture in urban spaces by allowing the public free access to various buildings and environments. This initiative encourages community engagement through discussions, learning opportunities, and debates with professionals and citizens alike.
Every year, OHNY hosts events that draw nearly 1 million participants, allowing them to explore a diverse array of architectural wonders. The organization operates independently but aligns itself with other Open House cities around the world, all promoting access and openness as fundamental values of citizenship. Beyond hosting unique events, OHNY also offers programs on urban systems and insights driven by over 18,000 volunteers. Its mission is to enrich urban experiences, making it a leading voice in sustainable city planning and architecture appreciation in New York City and beyond.
